Background and Rationale
Dengue is the most mosquito-borne infection that burdens tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. In recent years, transmission has increased predominantly in urban and semi-urban areas and has become a major international public-health concern. Dengue fever can cause flu-like illness and in some cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (severe dengue), which can be fatal. Today, severe dengue affects most Asian and Latin American countries and has become a leading cause of hospitalization and death among children and adult in these regions. In response to globalization and global warming, which are enlarging tropical endemic areas, it is important that physicians and public-health personnel be familiar with the management of severe dengue.

Objectives:
1. To update the currently available knowledge and experience for surveillance, economic burden, tools for dengue detection, diagnosis, and management of severe dengue. 2. To provide important topics concerning prevention with particular focus on vector control and vaccine implementation.

Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and Dengue Project Banpong-Photharam.
Learning Experience:
The course consists of lectures and case discussion. Participants will share discussions and experiences on the most up-to-date aspects of management in severe dengue.
The course will be conducted entirely in English.
